Meer Campbell and Athrun Zala:
Athrun is considered Meer's love interest, for
the reason that she is constantly trying to get at him(lol).
Meer has a fan girl crush on Athrun
like every
other girl in Destiny. The news is that Athrun Zala and
Lacus Clyne are still engaged, seeing as Meer is supposed to be Lacus, she
considers herself his temporary fiance. Athrun usual acts
uncomfortable when Meer is around, and constantly tries to push her away. She
doesn't get the hint and still pursues him going so far as to sneaking in and
sleeping in his hotel room in his bed!
Their relationship appeared to come to an end when
Athrun became a wanted criminal in Zaft and was considered a traitor, Meer
who went to inform Athrun, of his status in the chairmans eyes was asked
by the young man to come with him due to her position she would, eventually
be killed. Torn in an
emotional wreck over Athrun's words, she offered her hand, stay here she
said, extending his hand he offered her a way out, Meer refused and
the rain kept falling on a crying Meer. Athrun left her and ran to escape Zaft forces.
After that incident, you saw another side of Meer
that was hidden, the side that was sad, lonely and confused.
She might have regretted her decision.
The next time, they met up was
in episode 46, where Meer lures Lacus in an assassination trap.
Over joyed to see that Athrun is still alive, she goes to him,
only to have a gun pointed at her. Meer torn between her dream and reality
points a gun at Lacus, shouting she's Lacus. Athrun shots the gun and it
flys off. When the assassins come in Athrun takes Meer and hides her.
When Meer died saving Lacus, Athrun felt responsible, crying and shouting,
"Meer!". He thought back and realized he never tried to figure out more
about her and now it was to late.
Athrun was the closet thing to a friend Meer had. When Meer was discovered as being a fake
in front of the whole nation, Athrun watching felt bad for her. He was the first to know
that she was not 'fine', he saw that she was losing herself in her dream. That's probably the
main reason he felt so horrible after her death, seeing her in such confusion and thinking back
he felt like he could have stopped that from happening to her. When Athrun read Meer's diary when it
got into talking about him he realized how much Meer actually wanted to get to know him and he might
have regreted always pushing her away. I personally love this couple <3
